Fran Fernandez: Right now we are concentrating on moving from game to game

Head coach of Lviv's Karpaty Fran Fernandez commented on the away match of the 1st round of the UPL against Kryvyi Rih's Kryvbas - 4:1.

- How would you rate the opening match of the season and your team's performance?

- I think that we didn't start the match quite well. This is a fairly typical situation for the first official matches, when players don't feel completely confident yet. Despite good preparation and successful control matches, in the first half we lacked compactness. We left a lot of space, which Kryvbas used during quick transitions from defense to attack. We understood that this was the opponent's strong point.

After the missed goal, the team added. There were also two episodes with obvious penalties, and after reviewing the VAR, the referee made the right decisions. When we equalized, we began to act much more confidently: we controlled the ball better and used the free zones that the opponent left. Overall, I am satisfied with both the result and the way we started the new championship.

- What tasks do the team face this season?

- It's too early to talk about specific long-term goals yet. Our squad is not yet fully formed, just like the squads of other teams that continue to strengthen. Now our main task is to prepare for the next matches in a high quality manner and use the confidence that today's victory gave. We are moving step by step, from game to game. When the recruitment process is completed, then we will be able to talk about more global tasks.

- Yan Kostenko played on the edge of the attack today. Does this mean that the team no longer needs a new striker?

- We are satisfied with his work. Yan can act qualitatively in this position, especially when there is free space, because he is a fast football player and opens up well into the zones. At the same time, if we want to fight for higher places, we need a forward of a different type. Therefore, we continue to work on strengthening this position, as well as several others.
